Nowhere Better Than This, Anthony Wilson’s third collection, examines the precariousness of male identity confronted with shifting roles. It invites the reader into everyday dilemmas which are relished even as they remain unresolved. The personae of husband, father, brother and son are exposed and embraced to create a portrait that is funny, tender and wincingly accurate.

ANTHONY WILSON was born in 1964 and works as a lecturer, poet in schools and writing tutor for adults. He has published two volumes of poetry: How Far From Here is Home?(Stride, 1996) and The Difference(Aldeburgh Poetry Trust, 1999). He has held residences for Apples and Snakes Poets, The Aldeburgh Poetry Trust and The Poetry Society, for whom he co-edited The Poetry Book for Primary Schools (Poetry Society, 1998), ‘an inspirational compilation’ according to the Times Educational Supplement. He has read his work at venues across the UK, including: ICA, The Troubadour Cafe, The Poetry Place, Tate Britain, Tate St Ives, The Lowry Centre and The Arvon Foundation. He lectures on Tate Britain’s Speaking Pictures and Visual Paths programmes, and is a trainer for the Poetry Society’s poetryclass team.

“Anthony Wilson’s work is shaped by both wit and compassion, and creates a more rounded picture of a full life than most poetry dreams of.”
